Perpetual care in motion at Catholic Cemeteries
as weather conditions cause weed to flourish
Weather
conditions have caused a purple weed called "Henbit" to infect
yards and grassy areas and have resulted in added lawn maintenance
in the Midwest. As part of the perpetual care program of the
seven cemeteries owned and operated by Catholic Cemeteries,
workers will be spraying to eliminate these weeds.

Unused burial space as a donation
Individuals
with unused burial space are encouraged to consider donating
the space back to Catholic Cemeteries for use by persons unable
to pay for burial at their family's time of need. Robert W.
Chenoweth, Catholic Cemeteries executive director, said that
this donation is tax deductible. His staff will provide the
donor with a tax form showing today's value for the burial plot.

Good deed averts disaster
Charlie Owens,
pre-need counselor with Catholic Cemeteries, was doing his job
on a recent Friday morning researching available burial plots
at St. John Cemetery, Lenexa, Kan. An alert ear and what Owens
called "being in the right place at the right time" turned him
into a first responder and helped avert a more serious situation.

Burial spaces expanded at Mt. Calvary Cemetery,
KCK Families
with the tradition of burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery or interested
in this mid-Wyandotte County location have new space availability
for consideration with two recent expansions at the Kansas City,
Kan., cemetery. Mt. Calvary has recently expanded space in its
mausoleum and added a new section for ground burials.

In light
of the Kansas Bishops' recent "Catholic Declaration of Life
and Natural Death," staff of Catholic Cemeteries will be making
a timely presentation on "Options and obligations at end of
life: the Catholic Church on burial and cremation." The session
is scheduled Thursday, March 9, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at St. Pius
X Church, 56th and Woodson, Mission, Kan.
