Memorial Day Masses draw large attendance
An estimated 1,000 persons attended Masses offered at Catholic Cemeteries in Johnson and Wyandotte Counties on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29th. Masses were celebrated at Mount Calvary Cemetery and Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan.; Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, Kan.; St. Joseph Cemetery, Shawnee, Kan.; and Mount Calvary Cemetery, Olathe, Kan. The Mass for St. John Cemetery, Lenexa, Kan., was offered at Holy Trinity Church.
Catholic Cemeteries gratefully acknowledges the priests, choirs, vocalists, musicians and staff who made these Eucharistic celebrations possible.
Special recognition also goes out to the members of the Our Lady of Peace Council 9856 of the Knights of Columbus, Cure of Ars Parish, Leawood, Kan. Following the Memorial Day Mass at Resurrection Cemetery, the Knights dedicated the teardrop memorial to the unborn. The approximately 600 persons attendin the Mass processed to the memorial and prayed as Rev. Ken Kelly, Catholic Cemeteries Board of Trustees Chairman and pastor of ST. Pius X Parish, Mission, blessed the memorial.
