Perpetual care in motion at Catholic Cemeteries as weather conditions cause weed to flourish

Weather conditions have caused a purple weed called "Henbit" to infect yards and grassy areas and have resulted in added lawn maintenance in the Midwest. As part of the perpetual care program of the seven cemeteries owned and operated by Catholic Cemeteries, workers will be spraying to eliminate these weeds.

Robert W. Chenoweth, executive director of Catholic Cemeteries, said that Henbit is prevalent in the area, but that recent weather conditions have caused it to flourish. "We are working on a spraying program to eliminate the weed," Bob said, "but it will take time to eradicate this year."

Henbit has purple flowers and is a member of the mint family. It is found throughout the United States.

"Our perpetual care program calls for and allows for us to ensure ongoing upkeep and beautification of the cemetery properties," Bob added. "We apologize for any inconvenience during the time we will be spraying."
