Catholic Cemeteries exclusive agent for handcrafted, Trappist Caskets
In
response to a growing demand for simplicity of burial arrangements,
Catholic Cemeteries has become the exclusive agent in the Greater
Kansas City Metropolitan Area for Trappist Caskets, “the genuine
monk-made casket”™.
Trappist Caskets is a work of the monks of New Melleray Abbey, Peosta,
Iowa. The caskets are handcrafted at the monastery by monks and
hired staff. Wood comes from the monastery’s forest.
Robert W. Chenoweth, executive director of Catholic Cemeteries,
said his staff was introduced to Trappist Caskets by a client who
inquired to ensure that the wooden casket would fit within a mausoleum
crypt. “We are not in the casket business,”
Chenoweth added, “but the relationship with the Trappist monks
seemed to be a good fit with a religious group offering an alternative
to clients. Plus, the caskets are beautifully and simply designed
and handcrafted.”
Chenoweth said that the monks devote careful attention to each step
of casket production—from managing their forest to final detailing
and upholstering. Trappist Caskets meet all industry standards for
size and strength. The monks also offer premium wooden urns and
ceramic urns for cremated remains.
As exclusive agent for the metropolitan area, Catholic Cemeteries
handles ordering, shipping and delivery of Trappist caskets within
Clay, Jackson and Platte Counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte
Counties in Kansas. Sales are not limited to persons with plots
at the sites managed by Catholic Cemeteries. Caskets can be purchased
in advance of need and stored until shipment is required.
The New Melleray Trappist Abbey was founded in 1849. The 40-member
community is located in rural, eastern Iowa. Catholic Cemeteries
provides perpetual care at seven cemeteries in Johnson and Wyandotte
Counties. More information can be obtained by visiting www.catholiccemeterieskc.org
